The record
The Republic asks what justice is, first in a person and then in a city built in speech to see justice writ large. The city is ruled by philosopher-guardians. For that class the dialogue abolishes private property and the private family. It contains the philosopher-king and what the text calls a noble lie.
Those are claims in a book. Plato did not govern Athens by this design. Aristotle, who studied at the Academy, later argued against the separate Forms that sit under parts of the wider Platonic argument.
