Democrats lead Colorado's three close House races, in the 3rd, the 4th and the 8th, and none of them has been called

News story

Democratic candidates lead all three of Colorado's competitive House races in the Secretary of State's count, and none of the three has been called as of 9:30 p.m. Colorado time. In the 8th District, Democrat Manny Rutinel had 118,757 votes, 55.95 percent, to Republican Representative Gabe Evans's 85,654, 40.35 percent, a lead of 33,103 votes. In the 4th District, Democrat Eileen Laubacher had 151,222 votes, 49.94 percent, to Republican Representative Lauren Boebert's 142,836, 47.17 percent, a lead of 8,386. In the 3rd District, Democrat Dwayne Romero had 125,164 votes, 49.44 percent, to Republican Representative Jeff Hurd's 120,579, 47.63 percent, a lead of 4,585.

The 8th District, in the north Denver suburbs and Greeley, was drawn nearly even and has changed hands at every election since voters created it. In 2024 the seat was decided by fewer than 4,000 votes and was not called for a week, which is the warning attached to this year's wider margin: none of the district's three counties had finished election night reporting when these figures posted. The 3rd, covering the Western Slope and Pueblo, is the closest of the three, and Romero's share has dropped below 50 percent as more of the district reports. The 4th, covering the eastern plains and Douglas County, has no county finished reporting either.

Two Colorado House races have been called, both for Democratic incumbents: the Associated Press called the 2nd District for Joe Neguse and the 6th District for Jason Crow. In the 1st District, Democrat Melat Kiros, who beat Representative Diana DeGette in the Democratic primary, leads with 78.35 percent in the count so far, and in the 7th, Democratic Representative Brittany Pettersen leads with 61.91 percent. Neither race has been called. Together with the 5th District, where Jessica Killin leads Jeff Crank, every Colorado House district the parties contested seriously is running in the same direction tonight, and every one of them is still a lead in a count, not a call.
