News story

Baltimore police have charged Taylor Williams, 20, with first degree child abuse in the death of her 2 month old son Malik Woodard, who died in August 2025. An autopsy found the baby died of severe dehydration, malnutrition and a head injury that caused his brain to hemorrhage, and ruled the death a homicide. He had gained less than a pound since birth.

A Baltimore mother has been charged with first degree child abuse in the death of her infant son, more than a year after the baby was found not breathing.

Taylor Williams, 20, was arrested last week in the death of her 2 month old son, Malik Woodard. Officers were called to Loch Raven Boulevard and Gorsuch Avenue in August 2025 for a report of a nonbreathing infant, and found a medic performing CPR. The baby was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he died.

An autopsy later found that Malik, who had gained less than a pound since his birth, died from severe dehydration and malnutrition along with a head injury that caused his brain to hemorrhage. His death was ruled a homicide. How the head injury happened has not been established, and police said Williams reported no preexisting conditions.

According to court records, the baby's great grandmother checked on him around 7 a.m. after hearing abnormal crying, found him ill and struggling to breathe, and went to Williams, who told her to leave the room. Williams later told detectives she fed the baby that morning, put him to sleep, and returned from the bathroom to find him unresponsive, then sought help from a passing motorist who called authorities.

The charge was filed after homicide detectives obtained a warrant based on the medical examiner's findings. The case is pending, and no trial date has been reported.
