Monterey County charges mother after newborn found dead on roadside in Moss Landing
Monterey County prosecutors have charged Ofelia Garcia Ortega with endangerment after her 14 year old daughter allegedly killed her newborn, whose body was found along Struve Road in Moss Landing in a case police called 'Baby Angelita.' The teen was later recovered in Mexico, and the baby's father was arrested.
The body of a newborn was found on the side of Struve Road in Moss Landing, and investigators quickly identified the child as the baby of a 14 year old girl. Prosecutors allege the girl killed the newborn, and the Monterey County district attorney has now charged the girl's mother, Ofelia Garcia Ortega, with endangerment in connection with the case.
The teenage mother was recovered in Mexico after the newborn's body was discovered. The baby's father was also arrested. The district attorney's office has not released further details of the charges against Ortega, and the investigation into the newborn's death is continuing.
