An Oklahoma mother gets seven life sentences after her 11 year old daughter gave birth to her stepfather's baby at home

News story

A Muskogee County judge sentenced Cherie Walker, 34, to seven consecutive life sentences on Friday for enabling the sexual abuse of her 11 year old daughter and neglecting her children, after the girl gave birth at home in August 2025 to a baby that DNA testing showed was fathered by her stepfather. A jury convicted Walker on all seven felony counts in July and recommended life on each one. Her husband, Dustin Walker, pleaded guilty and is serving a life sentence with additional years on his neglect counts. The girl had no prenatal care, had not seen a doctor in more than a year, and delivered without any medical help.

Emergency crews were called to the family home in Muskogee on August 16, 2025, and found that the 11 year old had just delivered a full term baby inside the house. She was taken to a hospital, where staff alerted authorities. DNA testing confirmed that the baby's father was her stepfather, Dustin Walker. Prosecutors said the home had no running water and that six children, aged two to 11, were living in it.

Both parents told investigators at first that they had not known the child was pregnant. Prosecutors argued at trial that Cherie Walker knew her husband was abusing her daughter and did nothing to stop it. The jury convicted her on July 17 on one count of enabling child sexual abuse and six counts of child neglect, and recommended life in prison on every count. District Judge Timothy King imposed the seven life terms on Friday and ordered them served one after another.

Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson described what the girl went through in plain terms. "This child is traumatized. She's been through a horrific ordeal," Hutson said. "Not only has somebody gotten her pregnant, but she gave birth at home without medical assistance, and this will be her life for the rest of her life." Hutson also noted that the child had been kept out of school and away from doctors, the two groups of adults most likely to notice and report what was happening.

Dustin Walker pleaded guilty in March to sexual abuse of a child under 12 and six counts of child neglect, and received a life sentence with 42 additional years on the neglect counts. The girl's grandmother, Michelle Justus, has also been charged with child neglect. She has not been convicted, and her case is still pending.
