Elon Musk has given more than 445 million dollars in this election cycle, the largest disclosed total of any donor
Elon Musk has contributed more than 445 million dollars to federal committees through mid October, as of October 30, more than double the roughly 177 million dollars George Soros gave in the 2022 cycle. About 216 million dollars went to America PAC, his own super PAC, which is active in more than 40 House and Senate races. He has spent more heavily in Texas than anywhere else, where the Senate race between Ken Paxton and James Talarico could decide control of the chamber. Talarico has raised 146 million dollars, more than six times Paxton's total.
The largest donor in the 2026 midterms is not close. Elon Musk has plowed nearly half a billion dollars into the cycle, more than 445 million dollars to federal committees alone through mid October, as of October 30. That is more than double the nearly 177 million dollars that Democratic donor George Soros gave to outside groups during the 2022 cycle, which had stood as the largest known individual total in a midterm.
Musk's money could single handedly alter the course of the midterms, said Brendan Glavin, who oversees research at OpenSecrets, the nonprofit that tracks political spending. About 216 million dollars went to America PAC, the super PAC at the center of Musk's political operation. Federal campaign data show the group's activity across more than 40 House and Senate races this fall. An earlier disclosure round put 158 million dollars of his giving into the Senate Leadership Fund, the main super PAC for Republican Senate candidates, and 10 million dollars into the Lone Star Liberty PAC backing Ken Paxton in Texas, which has underwritten AI generated robocalls attacking James Talarico.
Texas is where he has spent the most. Musk lives there and has headquartered parts of his business empire there, and the Senate contest between Paxton, the Republican, and Talarico, the Democrat, could determine which party controls the Senate during the last two years of President Trump's term. America PAC has funded mailers, digital advertising and other outreach aimed at defeating Talarico and other Democrats. Talarico is no one's idea of an underfunded challenger. He has raised more money than any other federal candidate this cycle, 146 million dollars through October 14, more than six times the 22.3 million dollars collected by Paxton, according to Federal Election Commission records.
Musk gave nearly 300 million dollars during the 2024 campaign to help elect Trump. In May 2025 he said he would do a lot less political spending in the future, and he later fell out publicly with the president. The giving since July alone, about 276 million dollars confirmed by an America PAC spokesman in mid October, put that plan aside. Republicans who know the strategy say the PAC is broadly focused on helping the party keep control of Congress. Voting is on November 3.
