Queens mother accused of killing her 5 year old daughter after calling 911 and telling the dispatcher she did it

News story

New York police say Francis Cabello called 911 herself on Wednesday and told the dispatcher she had killed her daughter, and that officers found 5 year old Fabiana Cabello unconscious in the family's South Richmond Hill home. The girl died at Jamaica Hospital. The mother's father said she had stopped taking her medication and had been hospitalised three months ago, and charges were pending as of Thursday.

The call that brought police to the house in South Richmond Hill, Queens, came from the mother herself.

Law enforcement sources told the New York Post that Francis Cabello called 911 on Wednesday and told the dispatcher, in plain words, that she had killed her daughter. When officers and paramedics reached the home, they found her outside. Upstairs, they found 5 year old Fabiana Cabello not breathing. The girl was taken to Jamaica Hospital, where she died. Her mother was being questioned by police late on Thursday, with charges pending, as of October 15.

Her father, Franklin Cabello, was in the home at the time and told the Post the first sign he had that anything was wrong was police and EMS coming through the door. He said his daughter has psychological issues, had stopped taking her medication, and had been hospitalised only three months ago. He said he knew she was not fully well, and that a person who stops taking medicine for her condition is going to suffer.

What he said next is the part of this story that will stay with the family. He described his daughter as a protective and attentive mother, and said he never would have thought her capable of doing harm to the child. The family, he said, is distraught.

No cause of death for the child has been released in the reporting available, and no motive has been stated by police. What has been reported is a confession as described by law enforcement sources, a child dead in hospital, and a mother in custody being questioned. The accusations are allegations at this stage and have not been proven in court.
