Pennsylvania mother charged with killing her husband and three year old son at a Poconos resort
Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, has been charged with two counts of criminal homicide in the stabbing deaths of her husband, Charles Harrison, and their three year old son inside the family's room at the Great Wolf Lodge in the Poconos. She called 911 on Monday saying she needed help committing suicide, police said, and was found injured in the room. She had not been arraigned as of Tuesday night.
A family that had been living at a Poconos water park resort for three weeks ended with a mother in a hospital, charged with killing her husband and her small son in their room.
Pocono Township police were sent to a room at the Great Wolf Lodge in Scotrun at about 3:13 p.m. on Monday, October 12, after Metallica Rose Harrison, 27, of Towanda, called 911 and said she needed help committing suicide. According to the criminal complaint, she told the dispatcher her husband and son were already gone. Officers found Harrison with wounds to her left wrist and superficial punctures about her neck, and inside the room they found Charles Harrison dead with multiple stab wounds to his chest and the couple's three year old son dead with a single stab wound to his chest.
Investigators recovered two knives from the room, a large kitchen style knife and a smaller one, which resort staff said did not belong to the lodge, along with medication bottles and containers holding a brownish red liquid believed to be blood. Police collected between 80 and 90 pieces of evidence from the room. The family had checked in on September 21 and extended the stay on October 5, with checkout set for October 13. Detectives who read Harrison her rights at the hospital recorded her answer in the complaint: she said she was suicidal, not stupid, and would not speak. The complaint also records what she told medics on the way to the hospital, that she worked every day to be the best person, the best mother and the best wife, and that she had wanted her happy family since she was a child.
Monroe County District Attorney Mike Mancuso announced two counts of criminal homicide on Tuesday and called the case a violent domestic tragedy. Police said the violence was contained to the room and there is no threat to the resort or the public. Autopsies for both victims are scheduled later this week. Harrison remained hospitalized and had not been arraigned as of Tuesday night. The charges are allegations and have not been proven in court.
