Man who allegedly shoved girlfriend and baby off Bronx balcony arrested

Angel Carrasco, 31, was arrested Wednesday night by U.S. Marshals for allegedly pushing his estranged girlfriend Nathaly Ramirez, 23, and their 8 month old daughter off a 15th floor Bronx balcony. Ramirez died; the baby, found in her arms, remains in critical condition.

The man accused of throwing his estranged girlfriend and their infant daughter off a 15th floor balcony in the Bronx is in custody after an intense two day manhunt.

Angel Carrasco, 31, was arrested just before 10:30 p.m. Wednesday by U.S. Marshals and NYPD officers. He is charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault in the death of Nathaly Ramirez, 23, and the critical wounding of their 8 month old daughter, Angel Novalty Carrasco Ramirez.

The fall happened around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Allerville Arms, 2550 Olinville Avenue in the Allerton section. Officers found Ramirez and the baby on the ground in a courtyard behind the building, injuries consistent with a fall from an elevated position. Both were rushed to Jacobi Hospital, where Ramirez was pronounced dead. The baby survived and remains in critical condition; police believe her mother's body may have cushioned the fall.

A neighbor told NBC she heard Ramirez screaming before the fall: "Please don't do this. My baby. You know my baby is scared. Look at her face." Then she heard a scream and something hit the ground.

Investigators say Carrasco showed up at Ramirez's apartment carrying flowers, hoping to reconcile after he was twice arrested in domestic violence incidents involving her in January. When the gesture failed, he allegedly flew into a rage and shoved Ramirez, who was clutching the baby, over the balcony railing. Police found the bouquet inside the apartment.

Carrasco fled and the NYPD put out a wanted poster Wednesday with a chilling image of him playing with a large kitchen knife in what appeared to be an elevator, warning he was armed and dangerous. He was also previously arrested for allegedly sending threatening texts to another ex.

Led out of the 49th Precinct in handcuffs Thursday, Carrasco grinned at the cameras while bystanders shouted "Coward!" at him.
