ICE agents shoot man in the Bronx with a 5 year old in the back seat
ICE agents shot and wounded a 28 year old man in the neck Thursday afternoon outside 2 Marble Hill Ave. in the Bronx while trying to arrest a suspected migrant gang member. A 5 year old boy in the back of his SUV was unhurt; two agents were also injured.
Federal immigration agents shot and wounded a man in the Bronx on Thursday afternoon while a 5 year old boy sat in the back of his SUV, in the latest violent confrontation of the administration's deportation drive.
The shooting happened around 4:20 p.m. outside 2 Marble Hill Ave. in the Marble Hill neighborhood, when agents with ICE's Enforcement and Removal Operations moved to arrest a 28 year old suspected migrant gang member. Shots were fired. The man was hit in the neck, handcuffed, and taken to a hospital conscious; his injuries are not considered life threatening, police said. The boy was not hurt.
Two agents were also injured and taken to a hospital. One may have been hurt in a car accident, though it is unclear whether that crash was part of the arrest or the response, according to a federal official.
Sources told the New York Post the man is suspected of ties to the migrant moped gang connected to last year's shooting of an off duty Border Patrol agent at Fort Washington Park. His identity and immigration status had not been confirmed Thursday evening.
A crowd gathered as word spread, with bystanders shouting at the agents, and the NYPD mobilized officers for crowd control and evidence handling. The NYPD stressed its officers were not involved and were not on scene when the shooting happened. Governor Kathy Hochul said she had been briefed and demanded a full and transparent accounting from federal authorities, saying New Yorkers deserve to know exactly what happened and why. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, who supports abolishing ICE, had not commented on the shooting as of Thursday evening. The Department of Homeland Security had not issued a statement.
There have been multiple shootings involving ICE officers since the administration ramped up raids and deportations, including two U.S. citizens fatally shot by federal immigration officers in Minnesota in January and two immigrants shot dead during traffic stops in Texas and Maine in July.
